NEURAL PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Neural Presents its Broadcast Brain Award to Neumann.Berlin
KIRKLAND, Wash., April 18, 2005 Neural Audio Corporation, a leading provider of digital signal processing technology for the broadcast industry, announced its latest recipient of the company’s “Broadcast Brain” Award, Neumann.Berlin, one of Europe’s leading microphone companies, at NAB2005, Las Vegas. Neural presented the award to Neumann for its leading edge surround sound microphone technology, most notably its KU-100 used in HD Radio’sTM first live surround broadcast for KUVO-FM’s, Denver, Dianne Reeves Broadcast, and for the first nationwide surround sound broadcast in the United States by NPR (National Public Radio).
“Neumann understands the importance of microphone technology and placement when applied to surround sound for broadcast,” said Robert Reams, co-founder and chief technology officer. “So when we signed on to the surround sound projects we knew that we were in good hands. It was a great experience working with them, and we hope that this relationship continues in the future.”
“The Neumann KU-100 provides spectacular rear channel audio for these HD Radio surround broadcasts. The imaging and localization is amazing, and our extensive testing showed no other microphone technique was capable of providing what the Neumann KU-100 does,” said Mike Pappas, chief engineer, KUVO.
Neumann.Berlin President, Marketing/Sales, Wolfgang Fraissinet, in accepting the award said, “We are extremely pleased that we were able to participate in these historic digital surround HD Radio broadcasts. And we look forward to assisting in even bigger 5.1 events in the future.”
For the first surround sound digital radio broadcasts, Neumann provided its KU-100 dummy head for the remote venues. The KU-100 is a binaural stereo microphone that resembles the human head with two microphone capsules built into the ears. When using the KU-100 dummy head, the binaural stereo experience moves the listener into the scene of the original performance, in contrast to other space-related recording techniques, where the acoustic event is moved to the listener.
