SURVEY OF CEDIA EXPO ATTENDEES REVEALS QUALITY IS IMPORTANT FOR COMPRESSED DIGITAL MUSIC

Kirkland, Wash., October 3, 2008 -- Neural Audio Corporation today announced results of a survey conducted with consumer electronics (CE) professionals at CEDIA Expo 2008 covering the playback of compressed audio content using surround sound systems.

CE industry professionals participated in the survey that was conducted at the Neural Audio listening room on the CEDIA Expo show floor Sept. 4-7. The survey methodology included a blind demonstration of three music technologies followed by an anonymous questionnaire covering listening habits of consumers, as well as the quality of the sound content demonstrated for the study.

Neural Audio purchased and downloaded more than 50 popular songs from a major online music site and allowed survey participants to choose their favorite content and listen to it in Stereo, Neural-THX Surround Digital Music Mode and a leading matrix-based surround sound technology.

The survey revealed that 98 percent of respondents believe that listening to digital music through a home surround sound system is important to the average consumer, and iTunes/iPod is more important than any other music format available today. The majority of those surveyed also stated that today's leading matrix post processing technologies have quality issues when presenting compressed audio content.

"The survey shows us that CE professionals recognize the importance of addressing audio quality with today’s compressed sources and services," said Geir Skaaden, Neural Audio CEO. "The industry should not accept the notion that the quality of the audio experience can be compromised for the sake of convenience."

The Neural Audio survey findings also revealed:

  • 88% of respondents believe the quality of surround sound digital music is important to the entertainment experience.
  • 100% of respondents believe traditional matrix post processing technologies have quality problems when playing back Digital Music.
  • After listening to the Neural-THX Digital Music Mode, more than 3 out of 4 respondents stated they would make it the defacto technology for their customers surround systems.
Neural-THX Surround Digital Music Mode was designed to address noticeable playback issues when compressed audio content is played back using high-end home and car audio systems. Problems such as image collapse to the center channel and unnatural elements in the surround speakers are prevalent in today’s compressed audio services. Neural-THX Surround Digital Music Mode removes unwanted artifacts in the surround speakers and provides a consistent and balanced front sound-stage.

Survey details: More than 50 interviews were conducted by Neural Audio via in-person meetings during CEDIA Expo in Denver, CO.
